When More Isn’t the Answer
As someone who owns a business, I often catch myself believing that momentum comes from doing more.
More ideas. More projects. More tasks. More hustle.
When something isn’t moving as quickly as I’d like, my instinct is often to add. Add another strategy. Add another meeting. Add another item to the to-do list.
But some of the biggest breakthroughs I’ve experienced didn’t come from adding something new. They came from letting something go.
A Lesson from Coaching
One of the lessons ithrive31® has taught me through coaching is that sustainable momentum isn’t created by constantly pushing harder. It’s created by intentionally aligning our energy with what matters most.
When we take time to pause, reflect, and make conscious choices, we often discover that the path forward is simpler than we imagined.
Instead of asking, “What more should I do?” we begin asking, “What matters most right now?”
That simple shift can change everything.
A Real-Life Reminder
Earlier this year, I found myself feeling overwhelmed by everything on my plate. Between client projects, content calendars, proposals, meetings, and the day-to-day responsibilities of running a business, I kept looking for ways to be more productive.
I downloaded new tools. Adjusted workflows. Rearranged my schedule.
Yet I still felt stuck.
During a coaching conversation, I realized the issue wasn’t that I needed a better system. The issue was that I was trying to hold on to too many things at once.
There were projects that no longer aligned with my goals. Tasks that could be delegated. Processes I had outgrown but hadn’t taken the time to change.
What I needed wasn’t another strategy.
I needed permission to let go.
Once I did, something surprising happened. I had more clarity. More energy. More focus.
The momentum I was searching for wasn’t found in adding more. It came from creating space for what mattered most.
The Weight We Don’t Always Notice
The truth is, sometimes the thing slowing us down isn’t a lack of effort. It’s the weight we’re carrying.
It might be:
An outdated process we’ve outgrown
A commitment we said “yes” to when life looked different
A project that no longer aligns with our goals
A belief that we have to do everything ourselves
We carry these things because they feel important. Because we’ve invested time, energy, and attention into them. But over time, they can quietly become the very things that drain our momentum.
Creating Space for Momentum
As I reflected on this month’s theme of momentum, energy, and lightness, I found myself asking a different question:
What am I carrying that no longer needs my energy?
Not what needs to be fixed. Not what needs to be added. Not what needs more effort. What needs to be released?
Sometimes creating momentum isn’t about working harder. Sometimes it’s about creating space.
Space to think.Space to focus.Space to be intentional about where our energy goes next.
The Power of Letting Go
As leaders, professionals, and human beings, we often underestimate the power of subtraction.
Yet some of our greatest growth comes not from what we take on, but from what we’re willing to let go.
This week, I invite you to pause and reflect:
What is one thing that feels heavier than it needs to be?
What is consuming energy without creating value?
What would become possible if you released it?
You don’t have to overhaul your life or business. You don’t need a perfect plan.
Just start with one thing.
Because true momentum isn’t always about pushing harder.
Sometimes it’s about creating enough space to move forward with greater ease.
Reflection Question
What is one thing you could let go of this week to create more energy, focus, or momentum?
Small steps build big momentum.
