Welcome to the last post in the How to Be a Dream-Chasing Realist blog series! Over the past few months, we’ve explored actionable ways to pursue your dream job or make another major life transition, all while honoring your daily obligations and responsibilities. We’ve explored important steps along this journey including Getting Your Financial House in Order, Making Time for Self-Reflection and Discovery, Broadening Your Knowledge, Skills & Network, Consider a Side Hustle While Keeping Your Day Job, and Investing in YOU so You Can Invest in Your Dream. My hope is that each of these posts gave you the inspiration and motivation to pursue your dream...and practical ideas for how to get there. If you haven’t already started implementing the course of action outlined in this blog series, now is the time to do it. Ideas are great but, in order to be a dream-pursuing realist you need to take action. Small steps lead to big accomplishments so don’t take the hill tomorrow….just the next step. Baby steps. When I started my journey towards a career transition, I wrote down actions I would take over the next 31 days that would help me move closer to my dream. I wrote down one to two things I would do 31 days at a time Financially, Physically, Emotionally, Professionally, Relationship and Spiritually to move me closer to my dream. And thus, ithrive31 was born. I lived by a plan – It wasn’t perfect and I didn’t always achieve all of my goals but I made progress and I was living my life intentionally. It took me three years to make a major career change. And, even though this process helped me achieve a professional dream, I use this disciplined approach to living my best life every day. With that, I invite you to set your own plan in the pursuit of your dream. What changes will you make across the six key life areas (Financial, Physical, Emotional, Spiritual, Professional and Relationship) that will help you reach your goals? Here are some examples:
Financial
- Reduce monthly expenses by designated amount or allocate specific amount of savings each week
Physical
- Get at least 6-8 hours of sleep every night or drink 64oz of water each day
Emotional
- Join a support group/network or limit time on social media
Professional
- Take a job inventory or career assessment or take an online class
Relationship
- Spend time listening to a friend or connect with a professional mentor
Spiritual
- Begin a prayer journal or practice daily meditation

I’m a dreamer. And I’m a realist. If my journey has taught me anything, it’s that you
aspire to be something greater, to do something more, to live your dream….all while keeping your feet on the ground and taking actionable steps toward the future you’ve always imagined.
