The return to work after the holidays can feel abrupt. One day, you’re spending time with loved ones, travelling, or simply resting. Then, the clock strikes 12:01 am, and you are expected to be entirely focused, productive, and “back to normal.”

If your energy feels off just thinking about these abrupt shifts, you’re not alone.

Think “Warm-Up,” Not Sprint

January doesn’t need to begin at full speed.  Think of it as a warm-up to a marathon, where we can be intentional about how we use energy and rebuild momentum for the whole year.

Instead of expecting to hit the ground running, let’s enter the new year with a

soft-restart mindset

, and accept that:

  • You don’t need to overhaul everything at once,

  • Energy builds through consistency, not intensity, and

  • Small, intentional actions often create the most sustainable change.

Let’s be deliberate about how we approach the year, and consider ways to relieve unnecessary pressure.

A Simple 10-Minute Energy Reset

If your day feels scattered or draining, try this short reset you can do at your desk or during a break.  Here are some strategies to try:

Get an App for That

  • Consider using an app to remind you to move, breathe, meditate, or pray to reset.

Move gently for a minute or two

  • Stretch your shoulders, stand up, or take a brief walk. Nothing intense, just enough to reset your body.

Recharge, Your Way

Explore if you need to get back to a sleep routine, incorporate fitness or read a book. Do activities that recharge you.

Release, Instead of Resolutions

    • Consider one thing you’re ready to (a lingering worry, or a task that can wait).

    • Identify the one thing you’ll on for the next 31days?

This quick pause helps shift you from reactive mode into intentional action without adding more to your to-do list.

Moving Forward

Resetting energy at work isn’t about doing more. It’s about creating space. Space to breathe, to prioritize, and to move forward with clarity rather than exhaustion.

As you settle back in, consider:

Which area of your energy needs the most care right now, physically, mentally, or emotionally?

What’s one small reset you’ll try this week?

A soft restart may be exactly what helps you build lasting momentum.
